Phoebe’s “turns out classic diner fare and throws some good old Texas barbecue into the mix,” says. Phoebe’s is a 1950s-style diner that cooks up American classics with a modern Southern twist. A North Austin location is in the works at 2001-D Burnet Rd. Oltorf St., which opened in 2017) and the just-west-of-downtown location (408 W. But only one of those diners can lay claim to being the best in Texas, at least in the estimation of one food website. And the family said next time they will meet somewhere else.Austin serves up a virtual buffet of diners that whip up breakfast, brunch, lunch, and even dinner. We spent alot of money in that restaurant that day. We felt bad for our elderly family in there 70's and 80's for the rudeness that they had to witness. We told them that we were a christian family and that we could not help what happened but we did not know everyone that set in the area where we were sitting. Some of the older set said that they were not going to let that steal there joy. We were all having fun until this happened. There was some other people in the back and we said that we would sit up front so the family that was walking in could see us. A aunt had called earlier and talked to someone and told them that a large group would be coming in. We had come together because a relative has become ill and the family gathered in Lake City to eat and fellowship with him. And we told them that the ones that were there earlier was just chatting. ![]() They said that the one's that came earlier would have to leave because they have a policy that after 2 1/2 hours you have to leave and can not eat from the bar any more. But the one's who came earlier was sitting and talking to the late arrivals and one of the supervisors I guess came out in front of the other people in the restaurant and said that one of her waitresses said that some of our group was leaving without paying that was not true. Then some of us got there at 11:30 and some at 1:00. There was more than one waitress who rang up the tickets. I asked the waitress that rang up her meals and she remembered also. I got up and showed them my mom's to go ticket and she paid for her meal that she was eating also. We were mostly elderly and they were talking about us amongst themselves (the waitresses) One said they said that some of them paid for to go meals and the waitress said not one of those tickets was to go. Some of the people that was sitting where we were was not with us. There was alot of black people in one area and they accused my family of stealing food and the food was not that good. This restaurant was very rude to me and my family last weekend. ![]() They need to update and find new chefs who will utilize fresh produce, meat, and dairy from local farms. I think this restaurant has a real opportunity to be something great…there really isn’t anything locally that I found can compare. I had sweet tea, figured that would be safe, but my mouth started feeling slimy from it. He said it all was too salty and tasted like those frozen banquet meals. My husband had a couple small plates of food but only a few bites of each thing he took. ![]() I ate a few bites of mashed potatoes with gravy and it was nothing but salt. It’s such a shame because being surrounded by farms the food should be fresh! All the serving utensils were sticky or slimy. Mac and cheese looked so artificial, worse than the Kraft brand. I can’t even describe it…the carrots had a clear, wet and soggy look to them. We paid for our buffets and went on line…the food looked disgusting. Walking in, I loved that there were local sweet potatoes, tomatoes and honey for sale.
